“Homemade Bagels”

I was visiting a friend recently and she casually offered me bagels for breakfast—she just had to finish baking them she said.

Baking them? You see, she had let them rise overnight, then finished them off in the morning so they’d be warm and crusty for breakfast. She had made them from scratch.

If that isn’t impressive I don’t know what is. I asked her to move in with me. She said she’d have to ask her husband first.

But it got me to wondering… I’m a New Yorker, shouldn’t bagel-making abilities be part of my DNA?

So I gave these buggers a try.

They were all warm and plump and made for a perfect weekend breakfast treat.

Feeling up for it? Give ‘em a try… it’s worth it. The full recipe is over here on this other little site I write for…

Thanks for reminding me how lovely these are. I had my second grade students make them in the school kitchen last year- we followed a recipe and it was a wonderful lesson in fractions (for them)…and patience (for me).

  2. I saw this the other day and didnt even notice the author’s name lol. Ill have to try this.

  3. I have long since conquered my fear of yeast, so I don’t know why I haven’t given bagels a shot. You make it look easy!

  4. They look so scrumptious! In Finland we make similar bagels except they are baked, not fried and we often have them plain, dipped in coffee :-)

  5. Homemade bagels are the best! Now I am craving them!

  6. Yes, homemade bagels are the BEST! So many toppings to choose from and you can even make them mini size and make pizza bagel bites. Great post!
