I am finally winding down on my book tour. It’s been a fabulous and exhausting journey since early March, in some wonderful cities where I’ve met so many of you wonderful people.
There have been fancy gift bags, fancy food and drink, Q&A’s where we chatted, a lot of colorful sharpies that I used to draw in your books and… demos on how to make this fabulous homemade beet juice tinted lip gloss from my book “Modern Pioneering.”
Here is what it looks like. I want you to make it at home this weekend for yourself, because you deserve it.
Beet juice can be purchased in the grocery aisle of most stores as well as at any juice bar. It can be used to color more than just food. Homemade lip gloss is quick to make and a wonderful gift or stocking stuffer. You can add slightly more or less beet juice depending on how intense a color you would like. There are all kinds of lip gloss tins and containers available online. Or if you want to be thrifty, save your store-bought lip gloss containers and refill them with your homemade concoction.
4 teaspoons coconut oil
1 teaspoon liquid vitamin E (any kind from capsule or bottle)
4 tablespoons Vaseline or petroleum jelly
½ teaspoon beet juice
Combine the coconut oil, vitamin E, Vaseline, and beet juice in a small microwave-safe bowl and stir together with a spoon.
Microwave on high in 30-second increments until the mixture is pourable. Stir it again and spoon the mixture into lip gloss containers.
Let cool at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
Use within 3 weeks.
