Because I Love Ya (Winners Announced!)

Update:
I am awestruck by your beautiful answers. They made me laugh, that made me cry, and most importantly they reminded me of the beauty of humanity. If you are looking for inspiration I recommend reading the answers to my contest question below in the comments, they will bring you joy.

In no particular order, the 10 winners are:

Julie Edwards: “I am totes in love with my beagle. She is the best thing that ever happened to me…(well, not really but I like to think so). We go together like peas and carrots. Her name is Cocoa Beans. I named her beans originally but my dad added the cocoa so when we let her loose to chase rabbits in the bean field behind our house he wouldn’t look so funny yelling for “Beans” to come back.”

Terri McInturff: “What I love most today is having an 84 year old Momma, who still goes hunting and I get to go with her and share in those precious memories. I am sooooo blessed. Would love your book.”

M Westgate: “As a positive person, I love most things in the life I have; however, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day I will say I love my husband the most. My husband Ken is the type of man that legends are made of, he is good looking, but most of all he is a man of honor, commitment, he stands up for him self and sets the same standard for his friends and loved ones. He is caring and loving when it is time; but, he is also the type of man that will tell you the truth no matter what. He is my hunting partner, gardening supporter, and even canning helper in the kitchen. Some of my best memories of life are in the woods with him. Do not believe I am so blind by love to not see faults; everyone has them, including Ken, but as most relationships you build a foundation that grows and working through the hard times makes the future that much sweeter. This is similar to cooking, not every recipe goes well the first time you try it, sometimes the bad batches make the one you get correct that much better.”

Jon Brierton: “… every morning, upon awakening : “another chance”…”

Julia Knudsen: “My new Muck Boots that keep my feet dry when I am feeding the chickens, taking out the compost and most importantly splashing in puddles with my two girls!”

Chris Havard: “What I love most is waking up every morning next to my wonderful sleeping wife. Getting out of bed, going to my son’s room and watch while he sleeps. At that very moment everything is right in my world.”

Dominic: “I love my daughters & although they are not old enough to read I’d like to one day introduce them to your book and say “you only have to live within the boundaries you set for yourself, you really can do anything”

Liz Clark: “Ponies, and baby goats!”

Duane Cartledge: “I love my wife, who is also the best Friend I have ever had! She is “The Girl of my dreams” and “Love of my Life” ! I can’t even imagine life without her. We will be married 25 years on 10/01/13.”

Jeffery: “I love that I am not homeless, which I was for a while last year (and it was worse than I ever could have imagined). Life can be hard, but it can get better, too.”

**************************************************************************************

…because of that very true fact, I’m giving away 10, ten, TEN, 10! copies of the new paperback edition of my book “Girl Hunter.”

It is my Valentines card to you, lovely readers.

My favorite thing at this very moment is being in the presence of my son. He is 19 and leaving for the United States Air Force next month. Every moment is precious. Just seeing his face makes me happy. He doesn’t even have to speak a word. One day soon he will be gone, and it will be a long time before I see him again. Nothing can replace the feeling of the love of a child.

New local, natural cat food! I know, I know – boring. But they’re happy, not itching, not fur-balling, and not laying on my keyboard whining for attention. The stuff is working miracles over here! It is part of my new “buy local or handmade” resolution for 2013, and it is going swimmingly so far! In love with the Pet Wants, ladies.

I love that today I am 40 and when I woke up and got on facebook my friends and family put a senior pic of me with really bad hair and that most of them will turn 50 before me and paybacks are always fun. I also love that spring turkey season is fast approaching and I hope to harvest another big Tom.

The thing that I love most at this moment is that I can go home everyday after work to my family and my dogs. Things are going so well that I find myself waiting for something bad to happen. My worst fear is returning home from work to find that one of my family members or one of my pets has fallen sick , been gravely injured or has died. I worry about losing my job or that one of my family members will lose his/her job. Every night I thank God for blessing me, my family and my pets and pray that everything continues to go well and that I can return home every evening to my family and dogs. That’s what I love most at this particular moment.

I used to live for hunting, it was better than Christmas. I couldn’t wait to get up early and head into the still dark forest and wait in anticipation for Sun-up on the opening day of Deer Season. What do I love? The thing I Love is the time I spend with my son year round, but especially the time we spend together hunting. I carry a camera and catch every smile on his face. I derive more happiness out of seeing my son with a deer he’s taken…seeing my kid happy is better than anything I could accomplish on my own.

What do I love most about life in this particular moment?

What I love most about life in this particular moment is that I wake up every morning. Thankful that I have a healthy relationship, that I’m finally learning to do a career choice that has always been on my mind since college. That despite the fact that I’ve obtained a cold from someone that I care about (who cares about me back!)…..That I have a coffee in hand. That it’s Weds. Which is a day closer to Friday. So I can see said person sooner rather than later.

Yep, that’s what I love about life in this particular moment.

I will be 61 this year and I love the fact that at this stage in my life I am finally learning to shoot a gun. My husband bought me a 38 for Christmas in 2011, we went together to get our CCDW. And have been learning more since then. He says I am getting much better, and that he is proud of me.

At this moment, I love the ages of my children and the attitudes that come along with those ages. My son is a six year old kindergartener. He is filled with amazing questions, a profound curiosity, and thinks I am the smartest person in the world. My daughter is a 3 1/2 year old preschooler. She has apraxia of speech, which makes intelligible speech and communication difficult, but she is the sweetest, most loving daughter a father could ask for. With her smile, infectious laugh, and sweet kisses, that’s all the communication this father could dream.

At this moment, I love watching my daughter grow up. One day, I hope that she will have the same passion and understanding of food as you do. One day, I’ll take her to hunt and explain to her why we’re hunting. Already, I’ve started to teach her how to cook, hunting will be the next step to showing her the Earth’s connection to all of us.

I’m 65 and a half years old. Semi-retired with a job as Boat Captain of a 73 foot, commercial yacht in the 60 ton range in Oceanside California. We carry up to 50 passengers seeking the experience of cruising on the great Pacific Ocean.
We hunt for whale, run with the dolphin, sail into the sunset, often with a live dance band, always with a fully stocked bar and buffet. All while cruising the romantic coast line of Southern California.
In short, I get paid for doing what most people would gladly pay to do.

Hi, I know I am a man but hear me out. I have taught my whole family to shoot and hunt. I have past on a family treadition from my father. My wife, daughter, two sons, and my grandson, all shoot and hunt. And I have come to the conclusion that women are better shooters then men, although my grandson is giving them a run for their money. He has shot two deer, one each of his first two years hunting. Both times sitting with me and one he shot at 85yds in the head an 8 pointer. But my wife has also shot one at 85yds in the neck and my daughter shot one at 150yds of hand right in the pump station. And I don’t do any betting with them at the range either, because I would lose my money. Well thanks for letting me enter and I hope I can win this for my wife and daughter.
    Thanks again Brian

I love that I have taken up deer hunting this season with my husband. I have spent many hours in the woods really getting to appreciate nature in a way that I never did before. Sitting in a tree stand for hours really awakens all your senses. I’ve seen owls, fox and had a hawk land right across from me. I’ve learned how deer act in different situations as well as how I react to them. I was lucky enough to harvest 4 does this season with my crossbow. With my garden & my successful harvests, I feel like I am really able to live off the land & take care of my family. I love the challenge of substituting venison in my recipes & trying new things. I’m so thankful that my husband got me & my 3 daughters involved in upland hunting, & it has just evolved from there. One of my girls has taken a boar & another wants to turkey hunt this year. Respecting yourself, the land & the game is what it’s about. It’s sharing something as a family that was never part of earlier generations in our family, but its one we hope to pass on.

Not to sound egotistical by no means, but right now I am really beginning to love who I am. It has been very easy in the past to become caught up with what I want, where I feel I should be, what I don’t have, what I need to improve upon. Atlas I am comfortable in my own skin. I love who I am and just being me, without trying to prove anything. I am so blessed with two incredible daughters, a beautiful wonderful wife and the great big magnificent world of nature at my feet. Who could ask for more?I have all I will ever need. What’s not to love!

I love that I’ve been able to find something that we all enjoy and that keeps us healthy and active. I sometimes think I wish I wasn’t the worst player in the family (my daughter’s only 7 so she doesn’t count), but then I think – no, I’m glad my husband and my son are so good – and I look forward to my daughter being better than me soon as well!! So, you asked for it – there it is – Tennis!!

As a positive person, I love most things in the life I have; however, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day I will say I love my husband the most. This is similar to cooking, not every recipe goes well the first time you try it, sometimes the bad batches make the one you get correct that much better.

Yes, it’s more than a little beat up, more from miles than from years. It is not adorned with a handsome face, and is a little thicker around the middle than it should be. But, it looks forward to Mondays so it can get up and go to a good job, a job that takes care of a great stay at home wife, and two terrific kids. What I love most in life at this moment is the awareness that was brought to farmers on Sunday, February 3 when Paul Harvey’s voice rang true to the words, “So God Made A Farmer” in the Super Bowl advertisement.

My grandfather, Raymond Wesley Weathers, was a dairy farmer. He started in the dairy business in 1942 with 23 Holstein cows and milked them twice a day every day, at 4:00AM and 4:00PM, until he retired in 1976. He farmed because he loved the land and because he loved the livestock and he used to say, “I don’t care whether my garden makes anything or not, I just like to see it grow.” To hear him talk was to hear him live; his deep, Southern accent was rich and genuine like the stories he told.

Thanks heavens God made a farmer. Someone who cares for God’s creation. Someone who works day and night, in the heat, and in the sweat, and in the dirt, simply for the love of it.
