DIY: Cold Weather Lip Scrub

During this long winter my Aquaphor lip ointment has become my new best friend. I feel like my lips are perpetually dry and cracked, despite the fact that I’m caking on the Aquaphor like nobody’s business. If your lips are getting tired of this winter weather, I hope you find some solace with this super easy, all natural, lip scrub. It will take off the dry skin and excess chap stick, and leave your smoochers a whole lot softer.

You probably already have all the ingredients you need in your pantry. Don’t you love it when that happens?

You’ll need… Cornmeal, Raw Sugar, Ground Cinnamon, Honey, Coconut Oil, and Peppermint Extract.

You’ll want to add 1 tablespoon of cornmeal, and 1 tablespoon of raw sugar to a small dish.

Next, throw in 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon.

Drizzle on a tablespoon of honey.

Toss in roughly a tablespoon scoop of Virgin Coconut Oil.

For a little kick of flavor, I added just a few drops of peppermint extract to the mix.

Mix and mash it all together.

To save some for later you can use a little lip balm jar, like the one I had handy. Or you could just cover your scrub and keep it in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.

(This is “Intern Annie” demonstrating for us. Thanks Annie!)

When you’re ready to use it just massage it on wet lips. Try to resist the temptation to lick it all off immediately, which is tough because it tastes so good! After a few minutes of massaging, rinse (or lick) it off with some warm water.

It feels great to give your lips a fresh start! No more dry skin and chap stick build up to stop them from absorbing moisture, plus, they’re seriously soft!

Feel free to mix it up with your scrub. You could sub olive instead of coconut oil for your binder. Maybe swap out the exfoliant for something like coarse sea salt or coffee grounds, for a little different flavor. Feel free to share your most lip smacking recipes with us!
