DIY Pumpkin Succulent Planters

Halloween is right around the corner and we are pumped!  At the top of our list, this weekend is getting our homes decorated for all the festivities.  Since we are all very proud plant parents and will use any excuse to add to the family, we’ll be making these DIY Pumpkin Succulent Planters.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Pumpkins (we prefer the real thing, but you could also use a decorative styrofoam or container)
  • Carving Knife
  • Spoon
  • Terracotta pot or over plant contain (we want to keep our succulents long after our pumpkin rots, so its best to actually plant them in a reusable pot)
  • Potting soil
  • Moss or rocks to use as filler

Step 1Start by cutting a whole all the way around the stem.

Step 2: Once you’ve made the hole all the way around, pop the stem off.

Step 3: Start removing the pumpkin guts and seeds, bonus points if you save these to make one of G’s fab pumpkin recipes!

Step 4: Place your pot and plant your succulents!

Step 5: If need be, hide your handy work and enhance the look of your pumpkin with moss or your some rocks. Finally, pick a spot to show it off!

There is lots of room for extra creativity here. Add some painted details or play around with mixing in some fresh blooms. Check out the images below for some inspiration!
