The Best Fall Gourmet Pickles Recipe

The start of fall is my family’s favorite time of year to preserve fresh food we’ve grown in our backyard garden. We’ve been canning food for several years, but have never tried or even thought much about pickling. Last year, we received a jar of mouthwatering, homemade pickles as a gift. The brine and ingredients in that jar became the inspiration for these gourmet pickles.

These pickles make an excellent snack or a great hostess gift for the upcoming holiday months. I also love to add color to a charcuterie board with them.

Our backyard harvest provided most of the ingredients needed, but farmers markets are a great place to find fresh produce and herbs.

We cut our cucumbers into a variety of shapes hoping to expand the ways our finished pickles could be used.

The hardest part of pickling was waiting three weeks for the flavors to fuse and mellow before opening up a jar.

Use pint and quart-sized canning jars for a beautiful finished product. I have already given away several as homemade gifts this fall.
