Green Power Smoothies

It really is a struggle trying to keep up on school work, have a social life, and eat healthily. Recently, one of my best friends in college introduced me to her original recipe of green power smoothies. I was stunned–it was so good. In fact, it’s also healthy and super easy to make, not to mention we had a lot of fun together. I wanted to share this recipe with you today because this power smoothie brought a change to my life and I hope it brings beneficial changes to yours. After drinking this smoothie, I found myself not only enjoying the flavors but also feeling great for the rest of my day. A quick grab-and-go helped me keep my head above the three daily struggles I had: I got an energy boost to focus in class, I spent quality time with my friend, and I even treated my body to some much-needed protein and vitamins. Shoutout to my friend, Gevaniah, for coming up with this recipe!

Green Power Smoothies:

The health benefits of this smoothie recipe are endless. The protein powder adds to be a nutrient supplement that is crucial when you are trying to power through your day. The recipe blends in protein in with a variety of vitamin c sources: fruits! On top of that, there are antioxidants from berries, potassium from bananas, and Omega-3 and dietary fiber from flax seed. This smoothie really hits all the sections of a healthy food pyramid: protein, fats (avocado), fruits and veggies. One glass of green power smoothie will leave you feeling satiated, detoxed, and toned.

The best thing I like about this smoothie recipe is that all the ingredients are accessible in a college dorm setting. The ingredients can be fresh from the garden. However, the smoothie will still be amazing even with frozen, store-bought, and packaged fruits. Because it’s so easy to make, it can serve as a healthy meal alternative if you’re in a hurry (although please do sit down to have a proper meal whenever it is possible!).

This green power smoothie tastes like a combination of fruity, nutty, green goodness. Of course, the fruits are responsible for the fruity flavor: you can taste the tangy sweetness of the mixture. The avocado gives the smoothie a general silky texture. The nuttiness comes from protein powder and flaxseeds. Finally, the spinach is what gives the smoothie the deep, earthy green color.

Green power smoothies are super easy to make, great for pre and post workouts, and for breakfast or late-night. Follow the recipe below to see how you can make a healthy snack in just 15 minutes!
