How to Make a Wreath from Nature

A wreath is an easy thing to make for any season and a great activity in which you can incorporate your kids. To gather the key ingredient for this project, you’ll need to go in search for  the types of vines that are thinner and therefore good for wreath making—wisteria, honeysuckle, and grape are some of the most common. A walk in the woods, a local park, or even a local neighborhood will no doubt reveal others. Bring your clippers and a large bag to carry your vines home. If you find that the vines are brittle or on the thicker side, soak them in water for several hours before using them and they will be more malleable. In the same bag gather any other decorative elements that you find for your wreath—feathers, holly, berries, beautiful leaves and willows are all examples. Here is a video and list of supplies to make it visual and easy!

How to Make a Wreath from Nature:

Supplies:

Vines, about a 10-foot length, depending on the size

Instructions:

  1. Take a single piece of vine and wrap the ends together to form a circle. I recommend using a piece that is at least 4-feet long to start.
  2. Use another piece of vine and wrap it around the frame.
  3. Repeat this with vines until you have a thick frame, tucking in any ends as you go, and building on any areas that are thinner than others.
  4. Use rose hips, spruce and pine, holly, dried flowers, and berries and tuck them between the vines to decorate the wreath. Hang it!
