How to Turn a Plastic Bottle into an Irrigation Tool

We’ve talked about the advantages of container gardening, as well as ideas for fabulous and unlikely growing containers. But then of course there’s caring for container plants. I have been traveling a lot during these past few months, as many people do in the summer time. I also happen to have a lot of plants that need love while I’m away, and the hot months are when they need a lot of water, especially when they are in pots.  So today I’m going to show you a little #modernpioneering hack for How to Turn a Plastic Bottle into an Irrigation Tool, so you can keep your plants watered while you galavant around the globe.

How to Make It

If you’ve already read my post on Tips for Outdoor Container or Roof Gardening then I have no doubt that you already have happy plants. To keep them watered, take a large plastic bottle with a screw cap and make 1 to 3 very tiny holes in the cap. Fill the bottle up with water, screw on the cap and turn it upside down. Insert the neck of the bottle into the soil. This will act as a drip irrigation, which is particularly handy when you are going out of town.
