Recycling Fruit Peels with Face Masking

Let no part go to waste, right? However, how often do you just toss away your fruit peels without a second thought? It’s 2019 and it’s time to say goodbye to that habit and hello to recycling fruit peels. Besides the obvious health benefits of eating fruit daily, the peel itself can act as an all-natural facial treatment. The next time you blend a smoothie, consider giving your own skin a little bit of love and turn your fruit peels into face masks with these simple tips.

Papayas

One of my favorite fruit peel face masks is papaya because it is packed with papain. This is an enzyme that removes dead skin cells, encourages cell turnover, and contains antibacterial properties. Simply rub an unripe peel on your skin for maximum enzymatic action, or use a ripe peel for more hydrating effects. Be sure to wash your face after 15-20 minutes.

Bananas

Banana peels are full of anti-aging compounds and vitamins that are perfect for brightening teeth and reducing wrinkles. Because of these properties, its skin helps with acne, hydration, and reducing dark spots. After rubbing the peel on your face, allow it to dry for 30 minutes before washing to achieve glowing skin.

Citrus

The citrus family is perfect for a snack and for a refreshing touch to your skin. Antimicrobial properties reduce acne, vitamin C combats sun damage, and citric acid removes dull skin. You can simply use the inside of the peel or grate the outer layer down. Another method is to dry the skin out for a few days before grinding it into a powder. Either way, be sure to limit this treatment to 15 minutes at night and thoroughly wash the skin to avoid pesticides!

Blueberries

Throw in some blueberries into your oatmeal and then save some for yourself! Blueberries are packed with more antioxidants than any other fruit and are so beneficial for smoothing skin and combating blemishes. Be sure to mash the blueberries thoroughly so they don’t slide off your face and try mixing in other ingredients. Yogurt, honey, and oats all have beneficial effects. Apply to your face and relax for thirty minutes!

Kiwis

You are probably thinking of the fuzz on the skin, but the inside has so much to offer. Kiwis protect your skin from sun exposure with Vitamin C and help with acne because it reduces inflammation. In just 15-20 minutes, your skin will be exfoliated, glowing, and healthier!
