Shooting & Shooting at Joshua Creek Ranch

I was just in Texas Hill Country in a beautiful place called Joshua Creek Ranch.

It is part of the Beretta Trident program, and one of only 4 ranches in the country to receive a Beretta Trident… it’s kind of like the Michelin Guide to the hunting world.

Behind the Scenes:

When I have a camera crew following me around, I think it’s important to put them in the spotlight as well.

Mostly because it entertains me. And because they’re usually more interesting than I am. So they deserve a little spotlight.

Same goes with photographers and art directors.

You’ll get to see some of Terry’s photos at the end of this post… he’s pretty world class guys and gals.

This was the fruit of my labor. Pheasant, chucker and quail. I cooked ’em up. You’ll love the recipe, cross my heart.

This is Terry working his magic.

Oh, there was so much magic. I followed him around and watched him edit photos in order to gather some of his wisdom.

This is me sitting in a deer stand. You can hunt deer at Joshua Creek Ranch as well… I tasted Axis deer and it was sweet and wonderful.

Peek a boo from a deer stand.

I’m such a nerd.

Thirty wild turkeys from a deer stand.

Jessie who is a guide, taught me all about exotics and Axis deer. I was scribbling notes wildly.

And then the next day we filmed.

And filmed and filmed and filmed.

And my hair was very poofy and no amount of hair spray would tame it.

Also, now would be the time to tell you that I traveled for two weeks without a hair brush. And this was the tail end of my travels. Things were not perfect.

This pretty lady is from a food magazine called Taste. It’s a gorgeous magazine.

And Terry started styling food for his money shot.

This is the outside of the main residence where we had a little lunch break.

It overlooks the whole valley. And the trees were changing colors, it was a vision.

This terrace wraps around the whole house and has a stone fireplace. You can see it by night on the photos page, where I have a gallery of this place.

And there were lanterns everywhere. I have a thing for lanterns. I think because they remind me of my college campus. It’s nostalgia I tell you.

This is one of the many little houses on their property… that I tried to permanently move into.

This was the result of my pheasant cooking. I’ll post the recipe for you tomorrow!

But in the meantime, how cool are these plates? I have to get me some.

And this is a tile that the guys at Maverick had me sign. They promised me that it would go on their wall next to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s. I’m holding them to it.

The Results:

Terry Allan, world class photographer, did a superlative job photographing the event.

And the camera crew from Maverick were so fun and easy going. I just hope they edit out my curse word.

And these Beretta clothes… well, let’s just say I haven’t taken them off since the box arrived. They are heavenly and fit so well. It’s not often I can say that about women’s outdoor wear.

And this beautiful lady! She’s my favorite woman in all of Texas Hill Country. Her name is Ann and this is her home. Thank you Ann for having me!

The whole 2 page gallery is here… enjoy!

And check out my photos page for a peek at the lodge, the porch house I stayed in, and the main residence. It all belongs in architectural digest.
