Do you snore?
Great! Thanks for stopping by! I’ve got just what you need.
I was on the winding road to Tamales Bay the other day to eat oysters, and drink a cold beverage, and drink oysters, and the air smelled incredible.
It was the eucalyptus trees. I opened every roof and window in the car. And sucked it in. Then I stopped and ate twelve more oysters. Life was good.
Then, hours later, I was trolling the glossy aisles of a grocery store and happened upon the tea section. All of the teas at my eye level were… nine dollars.
I wept. Then I gathered myself together and went home and realized that there was absolutely no reason that I couldn’t make my own tea. For free. Tea for free.
I’d harvested some eucalyptus leaves during the drive and there they were staring at me begging to be turned into tea.
Eucalyptus does have incredible medicinal properties… it combats:
snoring
fevers
infections
colds
sore throats
weeping in the grocery aisles
And it makes your house smell like a hotel spa. So you can cross that off your grocery list too now.
Here’s the thing about Eucalyptus. It is considered toxic yet beneficial at once. It’s in many creams and cough drops but in large quantities it’s too much. You really want to keep your cats and dogs and children away from it the most. And enjoy it occasionally in a brew.
You drop them into a pot of water and bring them to a boil. Once they boil you let them steep.
Then you strain and are left with a pale green, aromatic tea that is faintly sweet. Give it a try sometime soon.
If you don’t have a eucalyptus tree handy or you don’t snore and therefore have no interest in this tea, do not fear. I have more tea recipes coming up. In the meantime, make these chicken wings.
To learn more pioneer skills like this, come to our pickling class this weekend in the Bay Area, it’s going to be FUN: (type in “pickledpeppers” for the secret discount)

I was sitting next to my fiance when I read the first line and couldn't help but turn to him and say this post was for him 🙂 He knows about you from the lemon tree rant, because there is a tree hanging over our driveway and he always says that he is going to go climb up and steal all of our neighbor's lemons. I think I will tell him to stick a note in their mailbox next time, and send half of the lemons he gets to for having the idea.

Ha, I am SO close to putting a note in the neighbor's mailbox across the street. I think about it every day. Next week when I'm back in Berkeley I'm doing it. He should too and we'll compare notes on what happens.

The stuff is also wildly toxic in even moderate doses, so drink it in moderation… Funny, I was just in Tomales Bay, digging clams and picking mussels.

How perfectly devious of you to slip a link to the fabled chicken wing recipe in a blog post about eucalyptus! Now I’m kicking myself for not checking that post about that sweet over-under CZ you picked up earlier. It all comes together, like the da Vinci code, doesn’t it?
Georgia
Haha, yes I like to keep you on your toes Greg!

Either has worked for me. I tend to like it fresh.

Just wondering what exactly is a safe dosage IF THEY ARE TOXIC? And can you drink it daily, or if not how often? I found your site after drinking some tea that contained eucalyptus and thought, hey that grows EVERYWHERE here. Thanks!

Hmm it appears like your blog ate my first comment (it was
super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and
say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m
still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips and hints for newbie blog writers?
I’d really appreciate it.
