Going Home

Turkey-Feet

I am about to step outside into the biggest travel day of the year. I’m a little scared. I’ve never done this before. I’m usually a hop, skip and a jump away from where I need to be on the holidays. So this is new territory for me.

It also means I don’t get to cook as much as I would normally want to on a day that revolves around eating. So instead of cooking, I’m going to tell you some of the things that I am grateful for, since I’m pretty sure that is what this holiday was about at one time or another…

Things I’m thankful for:
Buttery sauces; marshmallows; Queen (the rock band); sleeping-in; delicate flowers; vegetables (of all kinds); expensive dental work; the cello; my book; all of the friends I’ve made on the journey to write my book; my other friends who loved me before that; my family; traveling (yea, even though I’m scared); The Office Season 3; German; cool water; warm artichoke hearts; and these guys which I’m about to see roaming all over my yard tomorrow:

Thanksgiving

And since I can’t resist talking about food just a teeny, tiny bit, here are some of my favorite Thanksgiving foods to consider.

Brining your turkey is a good thing. Amen, Martha.

Brussels Sprouts, the forgotten vegetable.

Carrot Soup, the custard of the Gods.

A friend of mine recently said, “Turkeys these days are like Orange County women. Their breasts are really big but at some point you have to ask yourself why.” He cracks me up. But then I realized it was kind of true… scary and true. So I’m curious, where did you buy your turkey this year? What kind are feasting on? And how are you cooking it? Did you hunt it? Did you buy it from Heritage Foods? Is it a Butterball? (Don’t worry, I won’t judge).

Tell me! I want all the delicious details. Happy Thanksgiving to you lovely people!

Now excuse me while I go elbow my way through the airport…
