A beautiful window box will not only transform your view, it can transform an entire street. If you have ever stopped to admire a lush window box bursting with vibrant color you know what I mean. From the inside, a room with a view like that can change your outlook. And it is made even better when all of the butterflies, honeybees, and hummingbirds pay a visit, too. So today I thought I’d share my easy recipe and technique for How to Attract Butterflies, Honeybees, and Hummingbirds to Your Windowsill… because let’s be honest, those little pleasures are what can change your outlook on the day.
How to Attract Butterflies, Honeybees, and Hummingbirds to Your Windowsill:
Make This Special Potion
To attract these beautiful creatures, combine ½ teaspoon honey and ½ teaspoon sugar in a shallow, red-colored saucer of 4 teaspoons warm water. Hummingbirds like the color red, for the others it doesn’t matter. Place a cotton ball in the center and set the saucer on the outside of your windowsill. Butterflies, honeybees, or hummingbirds will land on the cotton and use it as an island from which to feed on the nectar.
This Is What To Plant
Plant vibrant colors in your window box with short flower tubes for the butterflies, and long tubular flowers like honeysuckle for the hummingbirds, and nectar-and pollen-rich plants like basil, rosemary, and lavender for the honeybees.
