Bringing Home the Bacon

Bacon3

Today I am off to a place called Hidden Valley Ranch. I’m pretty sure it’s not the salad dressing place because I am going there to hunt wild pig, and that would be strange…

This is my schedule for Saturday:

  • Out of bed before sunrise, hunting at daybreak with the ranch owner and ranch foreman.
  • Come back from the morning hunt for breakfast.
  • Afternoon hunt for quail and wild pigeon (if they are migrating through) and hopefully bring some home for the pot.
  • Tour the ranch.
  • Go for an evening hunt around 4 pm. Get back to the ranch house a bit after dark for dinner.
I’m going to be busy. But I am looking forward to the hunt because: 1. Wild pig is very delicious, and 2. The wild pig population has become so big that they are attacking people, invading their yards, and walking into their living rooms.
Discovery

Discovery Channel recently did a  great series called “Pig Bomb.” Two clips can be seen here: Pig Bomb: Pig Epidemic, and here: Pig Bomb: Sinister Swine.

So hopefully even non-hunters can appreciate that: 1. We have an epidemic that is only controlled by hunting, and 2. BBQ’d crispy pork belly with mollasses tastes very, very good!

Wish me luck!
