If you have been lucky enough to avoid the flu this season, you are a unicorn. This flu season is an epic one, some doctors are saying it may continue well into March. We are always looking for ways to boost our immune system and cure our bodies in the most natural and resourceful way possible. We took a look at the back of our common vapor rub ingredients, and we were astonished by all the chemicals we found in them. We wanted to come up with a better and more natural way to relieve our symptoms, so we did what we often like to do: headed to our kitchens.
This vapor rub works great as a congestion buster and the best part is you’ll know exactly what is in it. It took a bit of experimenting and research to get it just right. Everyone has a different preference when it comes to essential oils. Here is what we found works best for us. Share your tips with us in the comments!
At Home Remedy: DIY Vapor Rub:
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- 10 drops Tea Tree Oil
- 10 drop Peppermint Oil
- 10 Drops Eucalyptus Oil or Rosemary Oil
- 5 Drops Lavender Oil (This gives it a much better scent and a calming effect)
- 4 Tb Coconut Oil
- 2 Tb Cocoa Butter
(This helps it go on a lot smoother.)
- Jar with Lid (A mason jar or an old beauty product or candle jar works great, #recycle.)
How To:
Step One: In a saucepan over very low heat melt the coconut oil and cocoa butter to a liquid.
Step Two: Remove the pan from the heat. Allow it to cool off for 5 minutes.
Step Three: Add the eucalyptus, lavender, peppermint, and tea tree oils and stir with a spoon.
Step Four: Pour the mixture into your jar.
Keep it somewhere close by (like on your dresser or medicine cabinet) and use as needed. Just rub on chest, under your nose (carefully) and even feet. Rubbing on the feet and then covering with socks is said to be one of the safest and most effective areas to use a vapor rub. This is so easy and quick to make, so there is no excuse not to ditch the store-bought chemical ridden stuff.
