In the box will be:
1 pound of roasted cornmeal
1 pound of roasted grits
1 pound of their signature blend coffee, “The Old North State”

I like stuffing. It makes my life complete. And I like to mix it with cranberry sauce. And a slurry of mashed potatoes and gravy. And on the day after Thanksgiving I like to put it all between two pieces of bread.

Favorite Thanksgiving food? Lasagna. Before the Turkey.
Hey, I'm from an Italian-American family from Brooklyn. Pasta first–always.
Travis M. Cotton
Smoked turkey. Here in the south deep fried turkeys seem to be the craze but smoked turkey makes
a) the best turkey eaten right away
b) awesome turkey sandwiches the rest of the week
c) and the most awesome turkey soup
Smoked = awesome! Amirite?
Lana
Favorite Thanksgiving food – dressing! Southern cornbread dressing to be precise. Very different from stuffing. I'll be posting a recipe for my family's dressing the week before the big day.
Big Steve
Turkey with giblet gravy…on my stuffing. Then of course, candied yams, cranberry sauce, roasted corn on the cob, and a plate of buttermilk biscuits. I like the leftover turkey between white bread with some homemade sweet pickles and a little mayo. Wait….I just made myself extremely hungry for Thanksgiving. Be Blessed Georgia. We know all about "grits" here in North Carolina.
Faith McCormick
Pumpkin Bread. I make it early thanksgiving morning. its a sweet special way to start the day.
Teri
Gotta be the Turkey!
Meg
I'm with you on the stuffing. I like lots of mushrooms in mine.
Laz
I love sweet potatoe casserole with candied pecan topping. I dont even like sweet potatoes but love this dish. I have to say, I actually prefer the "lighter" version of the recipe.
kigercreek
Yep, the stuffing drizzled with some flavorful turkey gravy. And alongside it, freshly made homemade cranberry relish; a wonderful mix of tart cranberries and sweet oranges. Ah, just over 3 weeks to go…..
Nadia
the turkey – plain and simple – mostly because i've missed it so. after being vegetarian and then vegan for 10 years, i happily came back to omnivorous bliss last year and had turkey. unadorned. roasted. awesome.
Georgia
How cool that you're back to being an omnivore and loving it… I'm writing a lot about our omnivorousness these days for my next book so I find that kind of thing very interesting.
Nadia
happy to provide anecdotes and rationale behind the whole process. it's definitely been a journey – and the benefits of eating really good well-raised/well-made meat and dairy are innumerable.
Georgia
Okay… once I'm further along I may take you up on that : )

I like dressing.. which is the slightly cooler cousin (or sibling??) to stuffing. I like that it's crunchy from being baked seperate rather than soggy from being inside the bird. I also like cider 🙂

I like the turkey, stuffing, and cranberries on a Thanksgiving roll at midnight….
Madison
Fried Venison! Yummmmm! I also like fried turkey. Both of which, of course, we kill ourselves.
Lacey Maurer
It's probably a 3-way tie between pumpkin pie, stuffing, and candied yams. Yum!
wren
Favorite? Favorite is a strong word. But if my arm is being twisted on behalf of delicious snacks I can commit. To pie. Specifically a lofty, golden, double crusted apple pie with a nice piece of cheddar cheese.
Kristin
Stuffing muffins! Baking the stuffing in muffin tins maximizes the crunchy edges. It's brilliant.
Georgia
This intrigues me very much…
Kim Y.
We starting making these several years ago and they are a huge hit…they have become part of our holiday menu.
melanie
Smoked stuffed duck, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, gravy, peas………. pumpkin pie
Trish
Cranberry walnut sauce is my favorite! Stuffing, a close second.
Brandi
I love a left over turkey, dressing and mashed potato sandwich. Don't forget the ketchup squirted on top!!
RayJ
the stuffing with just enough sausage for taste just completes the meal……
Brandi, I can't believe you said ketchup! That is the best sandwich, turkey, mashed potato and stuffing..with ketchup…my family all think I'm nuts!! well…:)
Kim Y
Sweet potato pie…my Mom's recipe…deeelicious…oh and there is always turkey & dressing
bostongal81
Stuffing – no question
Julie
Mashed potatoes!
Amy
Potatoes. Any kind.
Potatoes, fer sure.
@conanzchic
Mashed potatoes are heaven! A little lumpy please..
Melissa
Homemade cornbread stuffing. Darn. It's in my head now. I'm going to have to make some today.
Murdock
I must say that Cranberry sauce is my favorite thing. It goes great with Turkey and stuffing and everything else. I was tempted to say Grits as we moved from the South to New Jersey and they seem to have no grits here. You can imagine that my country ham and grits experience has been curtailed of late.

My mom's mashed potatoes and gravy!
@PIOGreg
While I can't get enough stuffing or homemade mashed potatoes with gravy, I've discovered with age that my favorite Thanksgiving food is the food that reminds me of my family. Growing up, mom and dad and my two brothers and two sisters kicked off the holiday season with my aunts and cousins, and sometimes relatives I'd never met before! The house was too warm and noisy, the windows opaque with condensation, for the stove was overfilled with turkey, ham and roast beef – and as many types of potato dishes – and red chile and green chile.
I can eat turkey and stuffing at any restaurant and be reasonably confident that it will taste fine, but well-made green chile is made with love. :^)
Georgia
This is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Anne B.
Cornbread stuffing with homemade gravy….nom,,,.nom….nom!
Sylvie
Just found your web page from PW. My favorite Thanksgiving food is Pumpkin Pie.
Georgia
Hi Sylvie! Thanks for stopping by.
Sandy
Stuffing. But it has to be unique and different each year. And good!
Matt
Gotta be the stuffing, followed very closely by the pumpkin pie ! All served with a heaping helping of football !
ThirstySouth
Favorite? Turkey gravy, on top of dark meat turkey, with cornbread and sausage stuffing. Is that one thing?
Sara A.
Bean salad! It's a family tradition on my husband's side, and it really is a lot better than it sounds. When I make it I always use venison or caribou hamburger and my husband's family is always eager to find out what exotic meat was used this time!
Bri
Stuffing, hands down. I get to eat it once a year (why is that anyway!?) and i eagerly anticipate every bite. I love mashed potatoes almost beyond reason, but I can make those any time. Stuffing requires many hours roasting in a turkey to attain perfection. Dang, now I may have to roast a "practice turkey" just to get some stuffing.
Kelly
Dessert – any kind really!
Zoe
So hard! Gravy. Without it, the whole dinner doesn't seem right.
Mags
Dressing — like you, for how well it goes with absolutely everything else.
carmen
i love homemade cranberry sauce!
Brandi
Sweet potatoes, two ways. One, is sweet potato casserole with the pecans and brown sugar on top. The other is a shredded sweet potato casserole with a custard-like base. That one is my favorite!
Andrea Rogers
It's so hard to choose just one — especially because my favorite part of Thanksgiving is the blending of all the flavors. I love to take a small bit of turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing on my fork, dab a little cranberry relish on top and enjoy! I guess if I had to choose just one I would say my grandmothers homemade rolls — fresh out of the oven with a dollop of butter, there's nothing like 'em!
Bruce
Here in Minnesota we have a side dish that is called lefse. It is made from potatoe and flour rolled out thin and then cooked on a gridle. My favorite dish is buttered lefse with left over turkey rolled up in it, a cold beer and a football game.
Georgia
Wow, I've never heard of lefse, what are its origins, do you know? It reminds me a bit of this potato pancake dish called Boxty I learned about when I wrote Food Heroes.
Bruce
It is a Scandinavian unleavened bread. It resembles a flour tortilla in color, shape and texture but its main ingredient is potatoe. My family gets together once a year right before Thanksgiving and we make it. We start the day before pealing and boiling potatoes and once cooled we "rice" them and add the rest of the ingredients and let it rest over night. The next day we then fire up all the lefse griddles and go to town. Lefse is also good with just butter and sugar.
lvaletutto
Whole berry cranberry sauce (the kind that you can make from scratch with fresh cranberries) and cranberry bread from a recipe in the book "Cranberry Thanksgiving" by Wende and Harry Devlin.
ABTheorin
I would say eating stuffing just made in the morning while we all watch the Macy's parade has got to be my favorite Thanksgiving thing to do! We make extra so we can indulge without guilt and eat more later when the turkey is ready!
Susan
Mashed potatoes. I could eat them all (and usually do!)
Kelly
A medley of stuffing and mashed potatoes with a dash of cranberry sauce and gravy does the trick. A like a good green to go with that as well.
terri
for me, it's all about the gravy–all the other stuff is just an excuse to pour gravy on top 🙂
Holly
I would have to say my Mom's Marion Berry Pie. I have not had one in a real long time. Miss her.
the urban baker
I just discovered you via Helene! I love your site. I love your story. I regret not meeting you at BHF! Next year, I will make a point of it!
Georgia
Yes, I hope we meet next year! It's so hard to meet everyone I want to at those conferences, they need to have them be longer or more often : )
